The Bobcats were able to keep their cool despite terrible playing conditions.
Ohio ended the first round of play of the Falcon Invitational in second place out of six teams.
The Bobcats had a score of 321, which was 33 strokes over par. The Bobcats trail fellow MAC opponent Toledo by five strokes going into tomorrow's final round.
They shot well despite the rainy and windy weather conditions.
There are a lot of elements that can get to you when it's raining
coach Kelly Ovington said. But overall I thought we did a great job of keeping it together.
It was definitely a challenge out there.
Leading the way for the Bobcats was freshman Megan Weaver. The Canton native fired her career-best 76 four over par. The freshman is in first place one stroke ahead of teammate Lindsey Bergman and Toledo's Erica Rivard.
Megan's performance was just phenomenal, Ovington said. She was confident in herself the entire way, even though the conditions were terrible.
Weaver's twin sister
Meryl
was also impressive
scoring an 80. She is in seventh place in her first qualification. Meryl is golfing as an individual at the tournament and not with the Ohio team
according to Bowling Green's athletic site.
Meryl worked a great deal over the winter to help her chances of qualifying this spring, Ovington said. She'll definitely be a force for us in the future.
The second round of the tournament was canceled because of an increase in rainfall after the first round. The Bobcats only have tomorrow round to overtake rival Toledo.
We're going to have to continue to stay in the moment and not get ahead of ourselves, Ovington said. We're going to have to be able to recover from bad shots and not let them get to us, much like we did in the first round.",",2,Sports,Will Frasure,27859a.jpg,",",",",","
