Your Turn: Rally, march show support for assault, rape victims

This year marks the 30th anniversary of Take Back the Night Week in Athens. In 1979 the Athens Women's Collective, a group of community women, joined together as part of a national movement by marching in the streets, raising awareness about violence against women and take back the night. As this year's Women's Affairs Commissioner on Student Senate and organizer of Take Back the Night Week, I would like to extend an invitation to everyone in Athens to come to the Rally and March at 7 p.m. at West Portico Thursday.

This is an opportunity for all students and community members to join together in opposing sexual assault, rape and domestic violence. One in four college women are raped. This means that more than likely, one of your friends has been assaulted, even if you don't know about it. Come to this event to support them and the other members of our university community who have experienced a form of sexual assault.
