Finalists chosen in HTC dean search

Ohio University faculty members Lauren McMills and Jeremy Webster have been named as finalists to replace Harold Molineu as dean of the Honors Tutorial College and will interview during the week of May 18.

The search committee considered six applicants, all current OU faculty members.

Both finalists will participate in two open forums - one for students and one for the general public.

McMills, a 19-year OU faculty member, currently serves as the HTC director of studies for chemistry. She is also an assistant professor of chemistry and biochemistry. In 2008, she was awarded the Distinguished Service Award for her work with the Office of Nationally Competitive Awards.

Webster has been at OU for 10 years. He currently serves as director of studies for the HTC English program as well as the coordinator of the English Departmental Honors Program. During his time at OU, Webster has served on the Quarters-to-Semesters transition team, Faculty Senate and the University Curriculum Council.

Neither finalist could be reached for comment.

The dean search first began when six-year HTC dean Ann Fidler was named interim associate provost for strategic initiatives last year. Molineu, former associate dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, came out of semi-retirement to serve as interim dean.

In December, the provost's office temporarily suspended the search because of budget uncertainty, a university-wide hiring freeze and talks of combining the college with others to reduce administrative costs. But Executive Vice President and Provost Kathy Krendl resumed the search in late January as an internal search after determining the HTC would not likely be combined with another college

The 11-member search committee consists of students, faculty, HTC administrators and one dean. Political science professor DeLysa Burnier chaired the committee.

The salary for the new HTC dean, who will take over the college on July 1, has yet to be announced. Molineu is making $112,000 a year, while Fidler was paid $95,766 in her last year as HTC dean.
