Along Park Place and Oxbow Trail outside Baker University Center, you’ll see advertisements on the lamp posts promoting the Front Room, Latitude 39, West 82, and Bobcat Apparel.
To students the signs may appear futile. However, according to Gwyn Scott, the executive director of culinary and dining services at Ohio University, they serve to direct not students, but visitors to the various university-owned venues inside Baker.
“If you weren’t familiar with the campus, you wouldn’t know” Scott said.
The dining service budget has money allocated for marketing, and the street lamp signs were the most pragmatic option, Scott said.
“We had been looking into outdoor signs and those prices ranged from $2,000 to $40,000 each” she said.
The signs Baker Dining Services decided on cost less than $2,000 together, and are easily changed, Scott said.
