said officials from the Athens Police Department.
The seven horses injured at Palmerfest last Saturday night are doing fine said officials from the Athens Police Department.
Captain Tom Pyle said none of the horses was euthanized or needed serious medical treatment.
During the near riot Saturday night, several horses sustained cuts around their faces, eyes and hooves after students started throwing glass bottles and debris at officers and the mounted patrol.
One horse was cut underneath the eye and police were worried the cut might affect the horse's tear duct, said Chief Richard Mayer.
Another horse sustained a cut to the soft tissue underneath the hoof, while others had cuts to their legs requiring glue to seal the wounds closed.
Other horses eyes and foreheads were swelling after being hit with full cans of beer.
Several officers were also injured, but none seriously.
Some horses will return back to duty tomorrow for Six Fest, Pyle said.
