Pizza names give bands slice of fame

Bands have T-shirts, posters and stickers promoting their music. Now, some bands in southeast Ohio can add pizzas to that list.

Avalanche Pizza, 329 E. State St., made the tribute to Southeast Engine, but also has pizzas ranging from The Godzilla to the I was a Teenage Vegan Werewolf. Avalanche is one of the local eateries to name menu items based on national and local pop culture references rather than ingredients.

The Southeast Engine Delight

a vegetarian pizza, came about because one of the band members worked there.

At the time there was a guy in the band named Josh Antonuccio and he knew John (Gutekanst) the owner of Avalanche Pizza. I guess he was talking to him about the idea and they went for it

said Adam Remnant, guitar player and lead vocalist for Southeast Engine.

Southeast Engine was not the first band to have their music immortalized in cheese and dough. The Royales and Wheels on Fire also have pizza namesakes.

Last year we just introduced the Wheels on Fire pizza. We have guys working for us that are in Wheels on Fire and they just got back from their second European Tour

said John Gutekanst, owner of Avalanche.

Not every band member employed at Avalanche has been so lucky.

One guy who worked here was in a band and he was bugging me forever. He was like

'Come on

name one after my band.' And I was like

'What's your band name?' He was like

'Robot on Crack.' And I was like

'Oh

right
