Settlement reached for 911 dispatcher

An Athens County 911 dispatcher fired in 2005 will receive a $57,000 settlement in back pay.

Warren Ferguson was fired in August 2005 for harassing a female employee while intoxicated on the job, said Doug Bentley, chief of operations for Athens County emergency communications. An arbitrator determined Bentley's actions were justified, but Ferguson should be allowed to go back to work. The county's appeals were denied.

The Athens County Commissioners agreed to the back pay settlement at yesterday's meeting. The settlement is based on calculations of his salary offset by vacation time, sick days, and personal leave.

I'm glad to be finished with the process and go forward from there

said Athens County Commissioner Lenny Eliason.

Ferguson returned to work as a dispatcher in January and earns a $38,896 salary. Bentley said he has had no problems with his performance. 1
