Think outside the box.
We don't live in a box. Our world breathes; it bleeds and it evolves. It is a beautiful changing being that can and will be molded forever more. Martin Luther King Jr. understood this. His vision reached beyond the curtains of stagnation, his soul screamed for change. He once said in a speech concerning U.S. involvement in the Vietnam War, I agree with Dante
the hottest places in hell are reserved for those who in times of great moral crisis maintain their neutrality.
The only thing more revolting than those who covet power and ooze greed are those who sit and allow it to happen. Equality is just a word; we puke it out at every turn and seem to think our spew is enough to prove its existence. That is a lie. Equality will reign supreme when we make it so. When we as a society suffocate greed and kill apathy. Only when compassion reeks through our pores and sears through our vision will equality live.
The Unite! party running for Student Senate believes in a better future. They recognize that the system of governance at Ohio University is broken. They understand that students are not sheep, education is more than a greed-fueled corporate business, that the power should be spread equally among our university's main constituents: students, faculty, the workers' union, classified employees and the administration. Currently the power is consolidated among the Board of Trustees, who have no hope of seeing beyond their cramped boxes and our top administrators who by the fat bulge of their money sacks reveal their true allegiance. Workers union members are hurled from our university like maggots, the faculty handbook is consistently plundered and student input has been defecated upon. When will we as students take a stand for the well-being of our academic community? When will we look beyond our own needs to the needs of others? The Unite! ticket's platform includes the promise to allow each and every student the opportunity to vote on Student Senate issues. If you are unhappy or happy about a certain issue you will be allowed to directly participate in the democratic process. Unite! will fight for grassroots change in the system of governance at Ohio University. The iOU ticket, almost half of whom currently sit on Student Senate, believe that the Student Senate structure is flawless. Please vote on May 14th. Whether it be for those willing to think outside of the box or those that aren't, just don't sit and watch life pass you by.
