Student Senate ends year with new resolution, senior awards

Student Senators wrapped up the year in its final meeting last night.

Senators supported a resolution to support the sexual assault sanctioning guidelines discussed last week. Vice President for Student Affairs Kent Smith told them the move effectively solidified the guidelines, which would be effective next fall.

Consider it immediately approved

Smith said. We're making a strong stand against sexual assault here at Ohio.

Senate also heard the results of a survey conducted to students regarding knowledge of the Board of Trustees. Of 131 students surveyed, only 10 percent knew how many members were on the board while only 5 percent could name a voting board member.

It's clear from the results that students don't really know what the board does or who is on it said Director of Research Molly Davis.

Senate spent most of the night sharing fond memories and tearful goodbyes as members awarded six of their peers as Senators Emeriti, the senate's highest honor. Another eight students were awarded the title of senior senator.

Among the senators emeriti was Amanda Roder, vice president of senate in 2007-2008 who was impeached for distributing evaluations a week late and using an ineligible proxy. Members said her service to senate could not be ignored.

Her four years of service to this body outweighed her impeachment said Women's Affairs Commissioner Robin Jones.

In the final act of the night, Dean of Students Ryan Lombardi swore in the new Student Senate for next year before outgoing President Micheal Adeyanju handed the president's gavel to incoming president, Robert Leary.
