Athens County Sheriff's deputies arrested a local man earlier this week after a 17-year-old girl reported that he had raped her.
Chad E. Browning, 29, was charged with rape on Tuesday, for the alleged crime on Monday. Browning has a criminal record dating back to 1998, including a domestic violence charge in 2007, according to Athens Municipal Court records.
The 17-year-old said Browning drove her to a field off of Salem Road and raped her. She had minor injuries, according to the arrest statement.
Browning admitted to going to the field and that the young woman had performed oral sex on him, according to the statement.
Browning is detained at the Southeastern Ohio Regional Jail (SEORJ) on a $100,000 bond. Though some arrestees are released if they post at least 10 percent of bond, Browning will not be released under any other circumstances, according to municipal court documents. He also is being held for a driving under the influence charge, according to SEORJ records.
Browning will appear at the Athens Municipal Court for a preliminary hearing on Sep. 25 at 9:30 a.m. before Judge William Grim.
