Men's Golf:Bobcats will need to improve for today's tournament

Ohio men's golf coach Bob Cooley said the Bobcats were not ready for last week's Piper Intercollegiate Tournament at Bowling Green because of little practice.

The Bobcats worked hard in their last few practices, particularly on their short game, and Cooley said improvements in that area will be the key in today's Earl Yestingsmeier Invitational.

We worked for two hours on Thursday just on our short game

he said. The Ball State golf course is a short-game golf course.

The Bobcats placed ninth in the John Piper Intercollegiate, and Cooley said he hopes the Bobcats will place higher in the final standings of the Earl Yestingsmeier Invitational.

Everybody's got to get better and we've got to be ready said Cooley. As of right now I don't know how we'll do. We could place last or we could place first.

Ohio will need strong performances out of all its golfers. Senior Chad Warmbein carried the team last week in Bowling Green by finishing tied for 10th place in the individual rankings. Warmbein was the Bobcats' highest place. The next highest place for the team was •Paul Grauer, who finished tied for 36th place.

The rest of the Bobcat golfers ranked below 35th place and two of the golfers, senior Stewart Jamieson and sophomore John Mlynarski, fell into the 60s. Consistent play from the whole team will lead to a higher team place in today's tournament.

The Bobcats finished ninth out of 13 teams in last year's Earl Yestingsmeier Invitational. Defending champion Eastern Kentucky will return to play in the tournament. The Bobcats will try to improve on their performance last year as well as last week. The tournament is set to tee off today and will continue tomorrow.
