Police shut down every party on Oak Street last night after 200 to 300 people gathered around a couch fire in the street, according to a news release.
At about 11:30 p.m., the Athens Fire Department extinguished the blaze. Athens City Police and one Ohio University Police Officer then cleared out house parties on the street.
Police arrested Thomas Saffell, a 20-year-old OU student, for Persistent Disorderly Conduct, Underage Consumption of Alcohol and Possession of a False Identification. Police expect no other arrests, according to the release.
