The Ohio University Police Department and Athens City Fire Department evacuated Clippinger Laboratories and sent two students to the hospital as a precaution following a chemical fire Friday morning.
A class in Clippinger was working with chemicals when the fire started, said Lt. Bruce Smith, an Athens City firefighter who responded to the call. The class extinguished the fire, and the building was evacuated until it could air out.
The students who handled the chemicals were sent to O'Bleness Memorial Hospital as a precaution against smoke inhalation.
