A man threatened an Ohio University student and stole her purse Saturday morning while she walked through a parking lot behind McCracken Hall, according to campus police.
The thief - described to police as a white, college-aged male about 5'7' tall and wearing a baseball cap - told the woman he had a weapon at 2:26 a.m. and showed her what appeared to be a box cutter, said Police Chief Andrew Powers. After grabbing her purse, the man jumped into a waiting truck driven by another man.
Minutes later, two men used the student's credit card at the Speedway on Richland Avenue. Powers said he didn't know what the men bought.
Investigators want to speak with the men who used the stolen card, Powers said, adding police aren't sure whether those men robbed the woman. Both pairs drove a dark pickup truck.
Police released photos from Speedway's security cameras, which show two white men wearing baseball caps.
I'm sure someone will probably recognize them
Powers said, adding one man was wearing a distinctive jacket.
OU Police will send a campuswide e-mail about the aggravated robbery. It will be the third crime alert e-mail this quarter.
Anyone with information about the crime should call OU Police at (740) 593-1911.
