Heroic actions yield award

When Detective Jason Kline and Deputy Steve Sedwick of the Sheriff's Office saved an elderly man in February, they did not know their heroic actions would result in an award.

Kline and Sedwick went to 88-year-old George Sheldon's house when they heard he had missed a doctor appointment and had five days worth of newspapers on his porch.

The pair called Emergency Medical Technicians immediately and gave him water, the only thing he wanted

Sedwick added.

Sheldon died in September, but because of the officials' efforts he spent seven more months with his family, Sheriff Pat Kelly said.

The Buckeye State Sheriff's Association decided to give the first award in 10 years to Kline and Sedwick, Kline said.

Barbara Smith, the man's daughter, gave the award in place of her father at the ceremony yesterday evening at the Holiday Inn Express.

They both went far above the call of duty Kelly said.
