Ohio swept a two-game series over the visiting Goderich Sailors, an under-20 team from western Ontario, Canada, this weekend.
The Bobcats (11-2) scored 21 goals against the Sailors (8-10-2) while allowing only three. They won 10-1 on Friday and 11-2 on Saturday.
Eight different players put the puck in the net on Friday. Forward Michael Schultz led the charge with a hat trick and an assist for four points on the night. Billy Hemann also tallied four points including a goal. Jonathan Pietramala and John Luciana provided support with three points apiece.
We generated 44 shots and scored on 10 of them
coach Dan Morris said. A lot of our shots came from the slot and we did pretty well.
Goderich only managed to put 11 shots on Bobcat goaltender Patrick Morse, who stopped 10 of them to nullify the Sailor attack.
The only Sailor goal came five minutes into the second period. Forward Brendan Thomson was credited with the goal and Chad Woodhouse picked up the assist.
Ohio continued its offense production on Saturday. They pelted Goderich goaltender Sheldon Reid with 56 shots en route to the 11-2 win.
Defenseman Steve Osacky netted two power play goals in the first period as forward Alex DiMassa racked up four points, including a goal, to pace the Bobcats. Sixteen of the Bobcats' 20 skaters had a point in the contest.
Both Goderich goals came on power plays. Forward Jamie Miller cut the Ohio lead to 3-1 when forward Ben Sloetjes scored to begin the second.
From there, the Bobcats took control, scoring eight unanswered goals to close out the game.
Ohio goaltender Scott Karas made his college hockey debut on Saturday by making ten saves on twelve shots.
I thought (Scott) played like it was his first college game he said. He got better throughout the game.
Despite the lopsided scores of the games, Morris believes the Sailors' play improved throughout the weekend.
I talked with their coaching staff
he said. Their players played better as the weekend went on. I think they were excited about the way that they played.
Twenty-seven Bobcats got ice time against the Sailors while starting goaltender Paul Marshall got the weekend off.
Ohio now prepares to face Eastern Michigan, marking the beginning of CSCHL play.
