Ohio sits in 10th place, 16 shots behind MAC rival Ball State

The Bobcats concluded rounds one and two of the Bearcat Invitational yesterday, and the results were strangely similar to those of last week's Xavier Invitational.

The team is in 10th place and sophomore Paul Grauer is leading the way.

Although his numbers weren't quite as low as last week, Grauer was still able to finish the first day in 8th place. He is at 3-over par (147) and is tied with Ross Cosat of Ball State, Bosten Miller of Marshall and Parker Hewit of Bowling Green.

I played decently today

Grauer said. I didn't play that well but it ended up working out.

Grauer's round set the pace for other Bobcats on the course. Other solid performances came from Stewart Jamieson and Julian Jacobsen, who each had a two-round score of 153 and are tied in 44th place at 9-over par.

Sophomore Tim Gusweiler and freshman Byron Firestone are right behind that duo. They are both sitting in 60th place at 12-over par (156).

Coach wasn't very happy with us today Grauer said. But at the same time

he knows that we're dealing with a tough course and that we're hanging in there.

The difficult layout was not any easier yesterday. It was still soggy, and players did not get much roll from their tee shots. With already-tight fairways and some challenging pin placements, the field shot higher than usual.

We know the course a little better now. We know where we can hit it and where we can't hit it. For each hole

there's a right place to go to

and we're more familiar with that now

Grauer said.

The Bobcats will need to make several overnight adjustments to improve their score and make a run at the top five. Although they are 16 strokes behind first-place Ball State, they are only seventh strokes behind fourth-place Eastern Kentucky.

Grauer is only four strokes behind leaders Nathan Sutherland of Miami (Ohio) and Drew Preston of Bowling Green, so barring a meltdown, another high finish is likely for him.

The third round is set to begin today at 9:00 a.m.
