OU receives 500 H1N1 vaccines

The Ohio Health Department has shipped 500 H1N1 vaccines to Ohio University, which hopes to set up the first distribution clinic in early November.

Vaccines will be distributed to students and employees in high-risk groups first, said Ryan Lombardi, OU's dean of students, adding that OU could receive additional doses prior to the first distribution clinic.

The H1N1 virus, commonly known as swine flu

is a new strain of the seasonal flu. Symptoms include fever, cough, sore throat, runny nose, body aches, vomiting and fatigue, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Ohio has received 214,200 doses of the H1N1 vaccine so far, and expects an additional 219,800 in the coming weeks. 1
