Post Letter: 'Post' Web site format must become easier on the eyes

I'm writing to express concern about The Post's online home. Reading stories on The Post's Web site is unbearable. I'm not talking about the content, just the formatting of the actual stories. I have good eyes and don't mind reading size-9 font, but the width of the page is completely unreasonable. Have you ever seen a newspaper print text the whole way across the paper? I have a widescreen laptop, and if I maximize my browser, I can fit the story onscreen, but it borders on unreadable. It goes against the basics of Web design and news layout, and is an unforgivable problem on a site whose sole purpose is to deliver news.

I realize that The Post didn't create the site and does not maintain its internal structure. But it's your responsibility to have changes made. It's a shame, because it undoubtedly turns people away from the official newspaper made by students from one of the country's finest journalism programs.

I'm guessing the number of people picking up paper copies shrinks every year; the Web site is vital. As an alumnus living in Los Angeles, it's my only way to follow my alma mater, and I find myself avoiding it sometimes. I'm sure others do the same.
