Post Letter: Psychological problems exist outside of office hours

I am writing this letter about the article Counseling program open to students wishing for confidential conversations. I wanted to express my opinion and share how supportive I am of this new program. Mental health is a very important part of living a healthy life to its fullest. I know a lot of students that have used the Counseling and Psychological Services this university offers. Many, however, have always had a problem with the closing time of 5 p.m.

Individual's problems don't just disappear when it hits 5 p.m. Students must have a confidential place they can go if they need someone to talk to. Many of us students become overwhelmed with the stress of juggling school, jobs and relationships by ourselves. For first-year students, leaving home and moving to a strange new place without knowing anyone can be another drastic change in their lives that is hard to deal with. For some, all it takes for a release of stress is to have someone they can trust and be open with, knowing full well it will be kept confidential. Thanks to the new program, we can all get that.

Paige Sims is a senior studying health services administration.
