After 18 holes of play, the Bobcats find themselves in 12th place out of 16 teams.
One major reason for the Bobcats' performance is the team's inability to finish on the putting green, said coach Kelly Ovington.
Our tee shots were decent. Our short game was decent. Putting
on the other hand was very difficult she said. There were tons of difficult pin placements out there.
The greens were fast, but what really got us were the pin placements. Some pins were on hills, in little valleys, everywhere. Even some of our chips were rolling past the pin.
Leading the field after one round of play were Kirsten Hill of the University of Akron and Austin McDermaid of Oakland University. Both women shot a 2-over-par 74 in the first round. Hill's performance also helped the Zips' attain a first-place standing after one round of play.
Ohio was led by junior Erin Cahill's first-round 7-over-par 79
but Ovington said the Bobcats had troubles staying consistent.
We couldn't get anything going, said Ovington. It was really another up and down day. We just couldn't get a feel for the greens.
Finishing next for Bobcats was sophomore Megan Weaver who shot an 8-over-par 80 in the first round. Following Megan Weaver were sophomore Meryl Weaver (11-over-par 83)
junior Jordan Fesh (13-over-par 85) and senior Colleen Lienesch(14-over-par 86).
Ohio freshman Sarah Tranelli competed unattached and shot a 10-over-par 82 in the first round.
Sarah really kept it together today out there, Ovington said. She struggled a bit in the practice round, but the way she handled herself today will really pay off later in the season.
Despite the struggles
Ovington looks forward to a good performance from her team today.
A lot of shots went badly today. But tonight we'll look at the things we did wrong and we'll hopefully bounce back tomorrow.
The golfers were scheduled to play two 18-hole rounds but the second round of play at the MAC Preview was suspended because of darkness. The remaining golfers will finish their round early Tuesday morning and play will continue as planned.,",2,Sports,Noah Meyers,",",",",",","

Faculty Senate Chairman Joe McLaughlin will talk about whether the university budget crisis will affect OU's academic mission and what
if anything
faculty can do about it. The forum is open to all OU faculty.
McLaughlin gave a similar presentation earlier this month to OU's Board of Trustees
highlighting the effect of budget cuts coupled with increasing enrollment on academic quality.
OU-AAUP President Norma Pecora said the organization is planning one forum a month for the rest of the year.
I've gotten surprisingly good response, Pecora said
adding she is expecting a good turnout.
The AAUP conducted two faculty surveys during the 2005-06 and 2006-07 school years
both resulting in votes of no confidence in the president.
