Hockey: Bobcats beat Wolves, remain top of CSCHL

Ohio found a home away from home this weekend, collecting two wins against Central State's Collegiate Hockey League foe Michigan-Dearborn to stay perfect in league play.

Michigan-Dearborn Ice Arena proved once again to be as friendly as when the Bobcats claimed the 2008-09 CSCHL title. Over the past three seasons, Ohio (17-2, 6-0 CSCHL) has won all seven of its games on the Wolves' home ice.

The Maze and Blue did put up a fight, pelting Bobcat goaltender Paul Marshall with shots and executing an effective powerplay unit. Ohio struggled on special teams but managed to gain an advantage at even strength.

Friday, the Bobcats found themselves in a 2-0 hole entering the second period before storming back to claim the contest 5-3.

We made a lot of mistakes

particularly in the neutral zone coach Dan Morris said. We talked about that in between periods.

Ohio beat Michigan-Dearborn goaltender Paul Petrous four times in the first five

minutes of the second period, which ended as a five-goal period.

We made (adjustments) and got a lot of results Morris said.

Forward Billy Hemann sparked the Bobcats just 53 seconds into the period and later added the team's fifth-and-final goal to pace the offensive attack. Michael Schultz also scored and added two assists. Marshall stopped 35 of 38 shots for the win in goal.

Being down (2-0) on the road says a lot about our maturity

Morris said. We came right out in the second period and challenged them.

Saturday the Bobcats took a more conventional route to a 2-1 victory, riding Marshall's solid goaltending to victory with goals coming from Nick Rostek and Jake Holzemer.

Ohio and Michigan-Dearborn battled through a scoreless first period before Rostek scored in the second period to give the Bobcats the lead. The Wolves responded with a power-play goal in the third before Holzemer found the back of the net with five minutes remaining in the game. Marshall made 40 saves for his 14th win of the season.

I liked the way that we controlled the game

Morris said, adding that special teams play would be the focus in practice this week.

We're going to make sure we do those things

he said.

Forward Ryan Tessmer scored in his return to the ice Friday, while Steve Osacky will be out through the end of Fall Quarter with a hand injury. The Bobcats will host Robert Morris this weekend.
