The Spikedrivers will bring their sound of rock 'n' roll, country and blues to Casa Cantina, 4 W. State St., at 10 tonight.
The group was formed almost seven years ago when Jesse Henry, who sings lead vocals and plays acoustic guitar, met Steven Fox, who is on double bass, mandolin and ukulele, at an open mic night in Columbus. After a year, they started to bring in members from around the state.
Fox said the band performs 90 percent original songs and 10 percent covers, with Henry writing majority of their music.
We play a wide range of music genres
Hank Williams to Dolly Parton and blues and rock 'n' roll as well Fox said.
This past May, The Spikedrivers released their second studio album, Gather Round.
We took a different approach to the second album. This album captured more of our live energy of the show we have become known for
Fox said.
Fox said one of his favorite songs to perform is The Ballad of John Dillinger
from the band's self-titled debut album.
We all like to play it
and it is a fan favorite. It is more upbeat
a little bit more happening
Fox said.
An upcoming performance the band is looking forward to will be in April at Stuart's Opera House in Nelsonville, where the normally electric band will play exclusively acoustic.
It is a show outside what we normally do. Give fans something different
Fox said.
Performing music is something Fox has been doing since middle school and he said makes him happy.
Its an enjoyable thing playing music with people and help them forget their troubles and lows and have a good time
said Fox.
