'Real World' casting call seeks characters in Columbus

Casting directors from the MTV show The Real World will hold an open casting call in Columbus today for the show's 24th season. Anyone between the ages of 18 and 24 is welcome to audition.

The Real World is a documentary series about a group of young people who spend five months living and working together. It is also MTV's longest-running show, according to a news release from Bunim/Murray Productions, creators of the show.

One of the main goals of the casting process is to maintain a casual atmosphere, said casting director Damon Furberg.

We like to keep it fun

he said. We want everyone to come.

Those who choose to audition today will first meet with a casting director in groups of 10. Applicants will then be asked current events questions or play games with the other group members so that the casting directors can gain a general sense of each individual person. Individual interviews will then conclude the day's process.

Furberg said the casting directors are excited to return to Columbus because of the usually strong turnout.

Casting directors are estimating a crowd of about 400 people and will call back 15 to 20 of those for more interviews that will continue tomorrow, Furberg said.

Even though these numbers could discourage some from auditioning, Furberg said that shouldn't be the case. There's no set quota for how many will be asked to return tomorrow.

Don't be intimidated by the numbers he said. We're desperate to find new kinds of people.

For those auditioning, the most important thing to remember is honesty, Furberg said.

We've become very adept at seeing people who put on a front he said, adding that the casting directors want to see what's interesting about each applicant as a person.

Furberg also provided some advice for those who feel that today is their lucky day.

Be yourself

he said. Take (the casting call) seriously enough to do a good job

but don't put too much pressure on yourself.
