For the lead singer of Earwig, sleeping is an essential part of songwriting.
Lizard McGee said he wrote many of the band's indie-rock songs based on images, words or melodies experienced in dreams.
Some lyrics
some situations make it into a song ... (It) seems like our more popular songs are based on dreams - like 'Dinosaur Song' is a direct description of a dream and 'Used Kids ' that's taken directly from a dream
said McGee, who is Earwig's lead singer and songwriter.
McGee, along with bandmates George Hondroulis, drums, and Matt Wagner, bass, will bring his dream-infused music to Casa Cantina, 4 W. State St., tomorrow night during a free show.
I'm a big fan of free shows. I mean
it's nice to get paid
but going to a show
it's always nice when there's no cover. Hopefully it'll bring some different people out
Hondroulis said.
Tomorrow marks the Columbus band's third performance in Athens in a year, as it previously focused on recording its album Gibson Under Mountain, which is due out later this month. The album's songs were all inspired by McGee's dreams.
When I was a teenager I had a dream about a big screen in this theater
and the camera starts
and the words 'Name your dog Pink Leader' appear on screen ... but I never named my dog that
