The former chairwoman of the Athens County Democratic party, who resigned earlier this month after she was convicted of falsifying campaign finance records, will run for the party's Central Committee.
Susan Gwinn, 55, of 7501 N. Blackburn Road, filed to run for precinct chairwoman for the Athens South district, according to the Athens County Board of Elections Web site.
When contacted, Gwinn said she would never talk to The Post again and hung up.
About 70 precinct chairs in Athens County form the party's Central Committee, which elects party's officials including the president and vice president, said Susan Roth, the spokeswoman for the Democratic party group A Party for All. The group formed to oust Gwinn as chairwoman.
The committee votes along with the Executive Committee of elected officials in the county to elect the Democratic county chairperson, Roth said.
I would say that I'm not surprised and I guess I just question how much she is stepping down even though she's not officially the chair of the party
Roth said.
She added that A Party For All will back another candidate for the Athens South district position.
That candidate will be announced Feb. 18, the last day to file candidacy with the board of elections.
Democrats in Gwinn's precinct will vote on the candidates May 4, according to the board.
A judge found Gwinn guilty of two counts of falsification, a misdemeanor, earlier this month. The special prosecutor said she funneled $27,500 in campaign contributions from friends and relatives through personal bank accounts, and lied about the source of the money during her 2008 failed run for Athens County prosecutor. 1
