OU triumphs over Miami in first round of blood drive, surpasses initial goal

Ohio University emerged victorious after the first round of the blood-drive battle against Miami University.

OU surpassed its initial goal of 100 units by 15 units, while Miami had a total of 78 units by the end of the first blood drive.

I'm really happy we had such a good turnout

Student Senate President Robert Leary said. I hope the next blood drive will be even better.

However, the war has yet to be won.

OU's second blood drive, which will be sponsored by both Student Senate and Ohio Athletics, is scheduled for Feb. 15 at Ping Recreation Center. This time, the goal is set even higher for both universities.

OU has set its new goal for 125 units, while Miami has increased its goal to 100 units.

The winner of the battle will be announced at the Feb. 24 men's basketball game between the two schools.

Regardless, Senate leaders say the efforts from both universities will contribute to saving lives.

I'm really excited that the next turnout will be even stronger. Every unit of blood donated saves three lives Student Senator Elisa Timmerman said. That is what's important.
