Search firm hired to select VP

Ohio University has hired Baker and Associates, a national search firm, to help find a new vice president for Finance and Administration. The firm will receive about $60,000.

The new administrator will replace Bill Decatur, who departs this month for the Rhode Island School of Design. Decatur, one of OU's highest paid administrators, earned $245,725 a year.

The firm worked on last year's search for a new executive vice president and provost, which ultimately settled on Pam Benoit, from the University of Missouri, to replace Kathy Krendl, who departed to become president of Otterbein College.

OU President Roderick McDavis said he hopes to fill Decatur's position by the beginning of the next academic year, however the senior distinction has been dropped from the job title. In the mean time, he has appointed Associate Vice President for Finance Mike Angelini to be the interim head of Finance and Administration.

Angelini has a master's degree in business administration from the University of Michigan and worked as treasurer at the University of Toledo and an investment analyst at a health care company before coming to OU in 2008.

Angelini said he felt honored by the appointment and is excited about the opportunity.

It's a bit overwhelming because it is a large and complex institution and in this difficult fiscal environment it's going to be a challenge

he said. But it's certainly something that I feel up to the task to take part in.

As interim, he will oversee both the finance and administrative sides of the unit, but Terry Conry, now associate vice president for planning and assessment, will become the interim associate vice president for administration and will oversee the day-to-day administrative areas.

Angelini will earn $175,000 in his interim post, up from the $140,000 he was making as associate vice president. Conry will earn $155,000, up from $138,313.

The transition from Decatur to Angelini has gone smoothly said Rebecca Vazquez-Skillings, OU's assistant vice president for Budget Planning and Analysis, adding that Finance and Administration has a lot of bench strength which helps ease the transition.

The search committee, which is led by the provost, will recommend finalists to the president.
