The Epsilon chapter of Sigma Pi’s third stint on OU soil began on a whim.
The fraternity’s current president, Ryan Napier, a senior studying finance, stumbled upon the idea two years ago when he visited friends at Miami University of Ohio’s Sigma Pi chapter.
“(My friends and I) had been fooling around with the idea of doing a fraternity for a while; nothing really great came across,” he said. “We really liked (Miami’s) organization, so we checked into it – at first, kind of joking around, not being too serious.”
It was only after requesting information from Sigma Pi’s national organization that Napier discovered the rich history the fraternity had at OU – which included being the fifth chapter of Sigma Pi formed nationally and completing two previous terms on campus since the early 1900s.
“Once they found out they had some guys interested, they really pushed, and we got colonized,” Napier said.
A year later, the chapter was recognized for the third time as an official fraternity at OU.
