Indoor Track: Findlay successful for throwers

Coach Clay Calkins was not kidding when he said that the Findlay Classic would be a good meet for his group of throwers.

While the throwing team placed well again for Ohio, the jumpers complemented a solid weekend in Northwest Ohio.

Bahiyjaui Allen recorded a second-place finish in the shot put with a throw of 14.21 meters, finishing less than a tenth of a meter away from the winning mark.

She had an off day and should have won the event

Calkins said.

Emily Amendola earned a top-five finish with a throw of 13.57 meters in the shot put, but the weight throw was a different story. Allen and Amendola finished sixth and eighth, respectively, in the weight throw.

In the pole vault, Christen Bosch finished in sixth position with a vault of 3.40 meters.

The distance medley team took first place in Findlay, a sign that the runners are hitting stride. They finished nearly 14 seconds before the next group.

Our distance team showed promise and they have a lot of talent Calkins said.

Cathy Udeani, who has been a beacon of consistency all season, placed second in the high jump with a final jump of 1.63 meters.

A name that is consistently appearing throughout the standings in multiple events is freshman Alexis Geiger. She won second place in long jump and fourth in the triple jump.

When we recruited (Geiger) she was a top talent and we did not want her to get away and go to another conference school

Calkins said. She is definitely a Division I athlete.

No team scores were recorded at the Findlay Classic.
