The Ohio men's golf team finished in ninth place yesterday at the Wexford Plantation Intercollegiate.
It posted a second round of 300 (+12) and an overall score of 599 (+23).
Chad Warmbein led the Bobcats, finishing with an even-par 144 after shooting a second round one-under 71, which moved him up nine spots from the first round.
Ohio coach Bob Cooley said he was pleased with Warmbein's performance, but felt Ohio's second-round performance ultimately was what led to the ninth place finish.
We just didn't play as well
we had perfect conditions Cooley said. We need more consistency and we just need to get out and play.
Cooley said putting was once again what hurt the Bobcats, along with the long layoff from the fall season.
Again we didn't putt well as a team and Stew (Jamieson) and Phil (Gieseker) didn't play well Cooley said.
Monday the Bobcats were tied for sixth after the first round, posting an 11-over 299, which was cut short because of soggy weather conditions.
Wake Forest won the Wexford, shooting a 7-over 583 in a comeback win which saw them shoot a second round of 290 (+2). The Demon Deacons' Lee Bedford and Davidson's Jackson Taylor tied for first, posting an overall score of 142 (-2).
The finish trumps last years output, which saw the Bobcats finish 10th. Ohio will next compete in the Palmas Del Mar Intercollegiate starting March 8 in Humacao, Puerto Rico.
