POWER hour to incorporate audience in weekly discussion

Valentine's Day is fast approaching, but you don't have to have a significant other to talk and learn more about relationships. Tonight's POWER (Promoting Ohio University's Wellness, Education and Responsibility) hour, Relationships 101

is about both romantic and platonic relationships.

POWER hours take place at 7 p.m. every Tuesday in Baker University Center and focus on a different health and wellness topic each week. This week, some members of POWER are giving information on healthy relationships. They will also ask audience members to share their relationship stories and ask questions.

We want people to be involved and take something away to share with their friends said Kristina Rose, a first-year graduate student studying College Student Personnel and the graduate adviser for POWER.

POWER prides itself on being inclusive, so all possible relationships will be discussed, from romantic to platonic and heterosexual to homosexual.

Any student will feel comfortable Rose said.

February is not only Romance Responsibility Month, but also Sexually Transmitted Infections (STI) Month. In conjunction with these months, POWER is focusing on all different aspects of healthy relationships. Both communication and safe sex are important.

In addition to Relationships 101

POWER is hosting the 4th annual Safe and Sexy Social Friday from 9 p.m. to 2 a.m. in the first floor of Baker University Center. It includes a DJ, light show, dancing, free latex, a showing of sex toys, free food and games.

It's a big event and always a really good time

Rose said.
