A busload of Ohio University students was scheduled to depart from Baker University Center this morning to make the three-and-a-half hour trip to Cleveland to remember a fallen friend.
Freshman Andrea Robinson, 19, died late Wednesday night after being hospitalized with bacterial meningitis. The Cleveland Heights native was an undecided major living in Wray House on South Green.
Robinson's viewing will be at 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. today at Schulte & Mahon-Murphy Funeral Home at 5252 Mayfield Road in Lyndhurst. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. tomorrow at St. Ann Catholic Church at 2175 Coventry Road in Cleveland Heights.
University officials said last week that they would provide free transportation to students interested in attending the services.
We're trying to get the word out to students as quickly as possible
said Dean of Students Ryan Lombardi on Friday.
Robinson was admitted to O'Bleness Memorial Hospital last Tuesday and transferred to Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus.
Robinson's illness was the seventh case of bacterial meningitis at OU in the last year, and the third since September.
A second-year Bromley Hall resident was admitted to the Ohio State University Medical Center Feb. 8 with a probable case of bacterial meningitis. That student's name was never released and OU administrators have said they do not believe the two cases are linked.
An inflammation of the membranes surrounding the brain and spinal cord, bacterial meningitis can cause a stiff neck, headache, high fever and even death, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. 1
