Women's Basketball: 'Cats stomp out Miami 69-56

and the junior provided a fix at the right time.

Semeka Randall calls Carolyn Barnett instant offense and the junior provided a fix at the right time.

Barnett hit two straight 3-pointers to put Ohio up 46-45 with 11:49 left against Miami and the Bobcats never looked back on their way to a 69-56 win.

She comes in and knows how to put the basket Randall said. What I was more pleased with her is her defensive performance.

Ohio played with poise down the stretch, the opposite of how it finished on Saturday against Kent State. Jennifer Bushby hit a three to go up 57-51, and Barnett sealed the win with a three the next possession to go up 60-51.

The Bobcats showed how they can play when they perform on both sides of the ball. Offensively, Ohio got points from all over the court, receiving 28 points in the paint on top of its usual scoring from the outside.

Kamille Buckner and Thia Gholson answered the RedHawk's post players challenge in the paint. The two repeatedly scored baskets following made baskets from Miami's forwards. Buckner finished with 15 points and 11 rebounds, and Ohio out-rebounded Miami 45-31.

Our post defense wasn't as great this game

Buckner said. Noticing that

I thought if we weren't able to stop them

then we have to retaliate by scoring.

On the defensive end, Ohio got much-needed stops towards the end of the game after the RedHawks turned up their offensive tempo at the beginning of the second half. The RedHawks scored five straight baskets to open the half, but didn't have the same success after the run.

When the game was going back and forth

we knew we couldn't do that

Bushby said. Down the stretch

we were able to get those big stops and rebounds.

The Bobcats were much scrappier than they've been in their last few games, especially against Kent State. On many occasions, players were diving for loose balls and fighting for jump balls.

Our ball-pressure was tremendous

Randall said. I think that was started from Danielle Woodmore getting after it.

The Bobcats learned their lesson from the last time they played Miami and did a good job containing Miami's largest offensive threats. After hurting the Bobcats in their first matchup, Ohio held Miami's Courtney Osbourn to just six last night.

We contained their go-to players and didn't let them get hot on us

Randall said.

The win ended the Bobcats five-game losing streak that dated back to Feb. 3. Needless to say, Randall was happy to pick up the win after failing to do so since the end of January.

I'm just really proud of our basketball team
