BLOG: Ohio to face Tennessee Saturday in Providence

PROVIDENCE, R.I.--Our apologies, thought this made it into an earlier post:

The Bobcats will face Tennessee in the second round of the 2010 NCAA Tournament, after the Volunteers held on against San Diego State last night. We were in the midst of filing stories for our Web Site (thepost.ohiou.edu/ncaa2010) and this slipped us. But it shouldn't have, so our bad.

Ohio's second-round game will began 30 minutes after Villanova-St. Mary's, or approximately 3:35 p.m. Saturday.

We had the chance to sit and watch the Tennessee game upon completion of our work, and got a different look at the atmosphere we've raved about in Providence.

The feel is helped by the new-look Dunkin' Donuts Center, which is downright spectacular. The perfect venue for this tournament, it's a rocking place when they pack it in and there's a good game going on. The way the neutral fans latched on to the Bobcats last night was pretty special, and the good basketball fans did the same thing for Robert Morris in yesterday's first game.

I was surprised that Georgetown didn't bring more fans with them, considering we only had seven hours from Washington, D.C.

But the Ohio fans get another day to take in this awesome little town; in case I haven't gushed about before, Providence is pretty freaking neat. It's one of those towns where you can sense the ocean nearby, and the sunny and 65 weather since we got here only makes it better.

This you're on the big stage moment for our crew last night: I sat in the Ohio locker room after the game next to ESPN's Andy Katz, which was awesome. Vince sat next to Boston Globe legend Bob Ryan, Kyle shook his hand and we were among writers and photographers from Sports Illustrated, The New York Times, Washington Post and others.

Photographer Bob Breidenbach, of The Providence Journal, is here this weekend and is a 1980 Ohio alum. He had a smile on his face in the media room, which was cool to see. We told him about the wild-ness going on uptown, and he (needless to say) wasn't surprised.

Today is an off-day, and we're off to explore Providence a little more. I'm hoping for a visit to the beach, but tour guide Kyle Grantham says it's not real ocean because we're on a bay. I prefer to just see for myself.

We'll check in later today after our podcast is finally posted. Blame the Internet.
