PROVIDENCE, R.I.--- That was the first word to come out of Ohio athletics director Jim Schaus mouth when we talked to him in the hallway after the game.
He couldnt stop smiling, and who can blame him? His basketball coach could possibly be orchestrating the most improbable stay in the NCAA Tournament since Cinderella was named George Mason.
We will have more coming later on our main Web site under the 'NCAA 2010 tab, but here are some nuggets to chew on following the Bobcats 97-83 win over the Hoyas at The Dunk. For the record, I cant get enough of calling it that; shame that it's not AP style.
Anyhow
-Georgetown, the No. 3 seed in the Midwest region, lost by 14 points the No. 14 seed. The 97-83 final spread is the most lopsided loss delivered by the No. 14 to the third seeded team in NCAA tournament history.
-The Hoyas are always a good defensive team, and that's aided by the trees they put on the court. Their defense was pierced for the most points in its tournament history.
-Ohio advanced to the second round for the first time since 1983, another year they also advanced to the second round of the dance.
The question now is, who do you want to play next? Tennessee is a deadly team in its own right but (at blogging time) has its hands full with the pesky Aztecs of San Diego State. I think that Groce's attack matches up better with the Aztecs, but either is more favorable than powerful and imposing Georgetown.
