NCAA Tournament: What I (Rob Mixer) Am Looking Forward to in Providence

Rather than be up this early and study for a final, I would much rather spew my thoughts about our trek to Rhode Island.

And unless you've been hunkered down for a few days, you probably know why we're here. The most exciting part for me isn't the basketball game; it's the chance to travel somewhere that I wouldn't otherwise visit. That's no slight to the city of Providence or the state of Rhode Island, but the area just isn't at the top of my vacation hierarchy.

Based on what I've seen from online tourist guides and my BFF Google image search, I think I have a pretty solid grasp on what to expect from this quaint coastal town. Trust me, I have done my homework and picked out the spots that intrigue me, but I must remember that there is a basketball game going on, and a pretty important one.

The arena (Dunkin Donuts Center) has been recently renovated, which is pretty cool. According to the Internet, there appears to be a variety of things to see and do in the downtown area. Our hotel is just outside the city, in a suburb (Warwick, R.I.) that has some neat stops along the way as well.

Without delay, here are the five things I'm looking forward to in Providence:

5. Tasting real, authentic seafood and NOT Taco Bell's shrimp taco.

4. The river. But I'm not sure which one it is; I only saw pictures.

3. Being able to watch four college basketball tournament games in the same day. And in person.

2. An entertaining road trip with three interesting people.

1. Having a chance to cover one of OU's biggest sporting events in recent memory.

And that's the story, morning glory. More updates coming from lovely Rhode Island later tonight.
