As a faithful reader of The Post for the past year and a half, I never fail to feel heartbroken when I read articles that report rape on campus or in the surrounding Athens area. The Post continually and (I must assume at this point) intentionally employs disingenuous and frankly, harmful language when writing about the rapes of women at Ohio University. Wednesday's article on page three, Woman Says Raped at Riverpark is a prime example of this newspaper's frequent, thoughtless reporting techniques.
I take issue with use of the word, says; namely, that it implies this woman might be lying. The headline would have been perfectly clear without that word. It is admirable that The Post alerts our community to vicious crimes, but when it casts doubt upon the victim and (in past instances) calls her an alleged victim
it hurts not only that woman, but all readers of this paper.
