For the second straight weekend, the Bobcats split a weekend series with two wins and two losses.
Playing in the Lancer Spring Classic in Farmville, Va., Ohio played two double-headers against the Lehigh University Mountain Hawks and the Longwood University Lancers.
After struggling to push runs across the plate in their first nine contests, the Bobcats blasted Lehigh pitchers for 10 runs on 12 hits en route to a 10-1 victory in their first game.
Junior pitcher Emily Wethington did it all for the Bobcats as she drove in three runs on two hits while also pitching a complete game, holding Lehigh to only five hits.
(Wethington) has been able to keep batters off balance and has shown great confidence and control
said coach Jodi Hermanek. That's what we expect from one of our experienced veterans.
The offensive prowess continued for Ohio in game two of the doubleheader, an 11-7 loss to Longwood.
Designated hitter Caitlin Colvin knocked in a team-high five runs for the Bobcats, but Ohio pitching allowed 15 hits, which lead to the 11 runs.
Hermanek said hitting had been something the Bobcats had been working on in practice all week, and was pleased in her team's effort Saturday.
We were patient in the box and came up with some timely and clutch hitting she said.
In a mark of inconsistency, Ohio was only able to score one run on seven hits in yesterday's rematch against Lehigh.
The Bobcat hitters left 11 runners on base, a stat that plagued Ohio in previous games.
Hermanek said consistency in both hitting and pitching is the difference between winning and losing.
Once we find that happy balance we'll start coming out with W's
she said.
Ohio closed out the weekend with a 6-2 win over Longwood. Wethington pitched another complete game in the win.
