The leader of Ohio University's largest college won't have to spend this summer relocating to Fargo, N.D., after being eliminated as a candidate for North Dakota State University's presidency.
Ben Ogles, who is currently dean of OU's College of Arts and Sciences, was eliminated as a potential successor to former North Dakota State President Joseph Chapman, who resigned in October.
Ogles had been named a finalist in March, and was one of six candidates given airport interviews last week. However, the search committee announced he is no longer in the running in a report released earlier this week.
As dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, Ogles oversees 20 departments, 319 faculty members, 5,066 students and $52 million budget, according to OU's Office of Institutional Research. He earns $190,000 a year.
He came to OU in 1990 as an assistant professor of psychology and was promoted to associate professor in 1996. He served as director of the Department of Psychology from 1999 until 2002, when he became department chairman, according to an OU release.
