They were blown out and swept at home a week ago, and this weekend's games will not get any easier for the Bobcats.
Ohio (12-27, 6-9 Mid-American Conference) travels to Kent State today to take on the MAC East Division-leading Golden Flashes (25-18, 10-5 MAC) today through Sunday. The Flashes have won five games in a row, including a 16-3 victory against Pittsburgh - the second-place team in the Big East - last Tuesday.
The Bobcats hosted Bowling Green last weekend in one of the season's more important series. Both teams entered tied for second place in the East with equal 6-6 conference records.
But the Falcons pounded the Bobcats in three straight games, scoring 41 runs in the sweep. Bowling Green scored as many runs in the ninth inning of last Friday's game (12), as the Bobcats scored the entire series.
Ohio had won eight of its previous nine games and five of its last six in the MAC before falling to the Falcons. After a split of their midweek games this week, the Bobcats will try to get back to winning conference games against the Flashes.
We try to win every game
said coach Joe Carbone. What you want to do emotionally what you think you want to do and what you try to do all depends on just throwing strikes making plays and swinging the bat.
It has to come out to your skill.
Kent State took two of three from the Bobcats last season - including a 28-16 victory that saw every Bobcat pitcher allow at least one run.
Carbone said the team has no extra motivation to beat Kent State because of last year and that he treats every game the same.
The Bobcats have played a top-heavy MAC schedule so far: including Kent State
Ohio's opponents have a 37-22 record in the conference. Ohio's relief will not come until next weekend
as the team's final nine conference games are all against teams with losing records in the MAC entering this weekend.
Still
Carbone stressed the importance of executing in each game individually
not dwelling on past games for motivation.
Last year means nothing. Last week means nothing, Carbone said. You just have to be ready to throw strikes, make plays, swing the bat and hit the ball square.",",2,Sports,Vince Nairn,31536b.jpg,",",",",","
