Football player pleads not guilty

An Ohio University football player who took an alcohol-fueled ride down Court Street this weekend pleaded not guilty yesterday to charges about his erratic driving.

Andrew Joseph A.J. Oxley, 21, is facing three misdemeanor charges: two first-degree misdemeanors, hit and run and operating a vehicle while intoxicated and one minor misdemeanor, failure to control a vehicle, according to court documents.

Consequences for a first-degree misdemeanor include a maximum of six months in jail and a fine not to exceed $1,000. Consequences for a minor misdemeanor include a fine of up to $150, according to the Ohio Revised Code.

Oxley drove his truck into several vehicles and Copeland Hall Saturday evening. His blood alcohol concentration was higher than 0.17, more than double the legal limit of 0.08, according to police reports.

Ohio defensive lineman A.J. Oxley remains under an indefinite suspension

said Jason Corriher, assistant athletic director for Media Relations.

Oxley appeared in Athens County Municipal Court earlier this year on a disorderly conduct charge, according to court documents.
