Grammy-nominated pianist lights up Glidden

Last night, music lovers flocked to the recital hall in Glidden Hall to hear a performance by visiting pianist and Grammy-nominated recording artist Andrew Russo.

Russo said it was his first time at Ohio University. The concert was free for students through Arts for Ohio.

I guess if there's a theme for the evening it's playing music that's not typically piano music

Russo said.

During the concert, recordings of other instruments as well as audio clips from an infomercial accompanied Russo. He also played renditions of songs recorded by Billy Joel and Wild Cherry.

During his stay at OU, Russo will complete three lectures to music classes in addition to his recital.

Gail Berenson and Chris Fisher, professors of music, saw Russo perform at a National Association for Music Education conference and recommended Andre Gribou, a professor of music, invite him to OU. Gribou then applied for an Arts for Ohio grant and received money from the School of Music and School of Media Arts and Studies.

They said to me they think we should bring him here partly because they felt he and I had a lot in common (musically) said Gribou.

I'm very impressed with the faculty here and appreciative that they let me share the music that I love Russo said.

Russo claimed that he was very pleased with the audience and felt they genuinely appreciated his music. As an encore, he performed the Maple Leaf Rag by Scott Joplin.

It's the most entertaining performance I've ever seen

said Kat Long, a junior studying music therapy.

We can never

ever top anything that he did

said Daniel Mullins, a junior studying music education.
