An Ohio University fraternity is breaking melons for a good cause this Saturday.
Lambda Chi Alpha is hosting Watermelon Bust on South Green, a series of watermelon-themed events including a tug-of-war, a watermelon eating contest, a watermelon bobbing event and bowling with watermelons.
Seventeen teams of women will be competing, most come from sororities at OU.
The proceeds of the event will go to the Athens County Food Pantry. De'Andre Fox, philanthropy and public relations chair for Lambdi Chi Alpha, said the event is expected to raise $800 for the pantry in addition to canned goods the teams are asked to bring. The event is co-sponsored by Rockstar energy drink.
Fox said the event should top last year's effort, which he also organized.
It should be a lot more fun than last year
there are a lot more teams competing Fox said.
