For the third time in two and a half weeks the Bobcats will attempt to clip the wings of a certain group of Falcons.
After beating Bowling Green head-to-head at the Longaberger Invitational April 6 and then finishing four places ahead of the Falcons at last weekend's Lady Colonel Classic, Ohio will again be looking to best their in-state Mid-American Conference rivals this weekend at the annual Falcon Invitational.
Bowling Green will host the tournament at Stone Ridge Golf Club, a mere two miles from the Falcon's campus, an advantage that could be key for the hosts. Stone Ridge features a British-style links course that is uncommon in collegiate play and requires a different type of play than conventional American courses.
Ohio hasn't played on a links-style course yet this season, meaning Stone Ridge could present more than the usual number of obstacles and hazards the Bobcat golfers are used to.
Ohio, however, has a recent strong history at Stone Ridge, having finished in the top three each of the past two years and in the top five the last three.
Last year's event was especially rewarding for Ohio and then-freshman Megan Weaver, who finished second in a three-way playoff to earn the Bobcats their first individual medal since 2004.
Coming off a strong showing at the Lady Colonel, Weaver will once again have to play big and shoot low scores if the Bobcats are to contend this weekend.
The Falcon also marks the end of the regular part of the spring season for the Bobcats, the last chance to tune their games for the year-end MAC Championships in Fishers, Ind. next weekend. Four other schools will also be representing the conference at the Falcon, making it a de facto preview for next week.
Action at the Falcon will begin tomorrow morning and then continue with another round in the afternoon before finishing up with a final 18 holes Sunday morning.
