Laura Stevenson and the Cans headline ACRN concert

Ohio University's All Campus Radio Network continues its mission of promoting local music tonight as it welcomes four bands to an uptown venue.

Headliners Laura Stevenson and the Cans will be joined by She Bears, The Ghost of Asa Phelps and Stomp the Condor at The Union, 18 W. Union St.

The show begins at 10 p.m. and requires a $5 cover charge.

Aaron Vilk, promotional director for ACRN, said that tonight's concert strengthens the organization's mission.

This is what ACRN does

he said. We usually have regular shows featuring local regional and national artists.

She Bears, a six-piece symphonic indie rock band from Athens, will perform one of its last shows before beginning nationwide tour this summer.

The Ghost of Asa Phelps, heavily influenced by Bruce Springsteen and The Lawrence Arms is also from Athens.

Traveling a bit farther are Laura Stevenson and The Cans, a folk punk band, and Stomp the Condor, a symphonic punk rock band. The two groups hail from Brooklyn, N.Y. and Columbus, respectively.

Melissa Burant, a sophomore studying English and ACRN's public relations director, said that getting Laura Stevenson and the Cans as the headlining act was a great opportunity.

This is definitely a pretty big show for us she said.

Even though ACRN still has Lobsterfest to look forward to next week, these last two shows of the year will showcase a lot of variety, Vilk said.

We try and always keep a lot of local music coming through Athens

he said, adding that it's a good way to promote the station and get bands notoriety.

This really brings ACRN in touch with local music

Vilk said.
