Male student reports sexual assault, police unsure if date rape drug used

A 19-year-old Ohio University student told campus police Tuesday that he was raped by two men after an off-campus party.

The first-year student told police he attended the party Monday evening, where he was served several drinks in open containers. At some point, the student awoke to find one man holding him down while another raped him, according to a campus crime alert. The student blacked out and later woke up in his dorm room.

It's an unfortunate but important reminder that men can be victims of sexual assault as well

said Chief Andrew Powers of the Ohio University Police Department.

Campus police took the student to O'Bleness Memorial Hospital for a rape exam Tuesday after he reported the attack. An investigator interviewed him again Wednesday.

Police don't know if the assault involved a date rape drug, but haven't ruled anything out, Powers said.

The crime alert describes the attackers simply as two muscular, college-aged white men, one with brown hair.

It's the best information he was able to provide Powers said.

This is the third rape for which campus police have sent out a crime alert since January 2007.

Anyone with information about the rape should contact OUPD at 593-1911.
