An Athens man went to Athens County Municipal Court on kidnapping and burglary charges yesterday.
Craig A. Cooper, 44, was charged with kidnapping and burglary, which took place early yesterday morning.
Tuesday, Cooper was asked to leave the residence where he lived with his girlfriend and another woman. Cooper did leave, according to the complaint filed with the Athens County Municipal Court.
Cooper then returned to the residence in the early morning hours of Wednesday. He forced his way into the residence and removed one of the occupants against her will. Cooper then drove away with her in another's car with consent, according to the complaint.
Kidnapping is a first-degree felony, and burglary is a second-degree felony. Cooper could spend a maximum of 18 years in prison if convicted of both charges, according to the Ohio Revised Code.
Cooper is currently being held in the Southeast Ohio Regional Jail.
Cooper is due back in court at 2 p.m. May 14 for a preliminary hearing.
