OU to seek new director of Judiciaries

Ohio University announced yesterday its plans to launch a national search for a new director of University Judiciaries following an internal reorganization of the Division of Student Affairs.

Jim Sand, who has worked at OU for 21 years, will return to Residential Housing after spending two and a half years as director of University Judiciaries - a division of Student Affairs which primarily maintains and enforces OU's Student Code of Conduct.

Sand, who started at OU 1989, spent most of his career in residence life before moving to Judiciaries in 2007. He will assume the role of associate director of East Green this summer.

The Dean of Students became aware of some shifting that was going on in Residential Housing and just asked if I was interested in going back

Sand said. I thought about it and decided that in comparing the two lines of work that I enjoyed that line of work more.

Sand will take over for current Interim Associate Director of East Green Jen Maskiell, who is moving to a newly created position in Residential Housing.

It's been a good learning experience being in judiciaries Sand said.

Kent Smith, vice president for Student Affairs, said OU is currently in the process of finding Sand's replacement.

We're doing a national search. It's probably going to take us one to two months before someone is named Smith said. Our goal is to have someone in place by August 1st.

Smith said the move was unrelated to university budget cuts. Sand, who currently earns $56,513 a year, will receive the same salary in his new position.

Dr. Sand is a phenomenal man

and is doing great work

Smith added. I think he recognized that he favored and wanted to move back to residence life

that's where he spent a large amount of his career - and we adhered to his wishes.

Judy Piercy, associate director for Residential Housing, said Maskiell will now work directly with Christine Sheets, the director of Residential Housing, on the Public-Private Partnership Initiative to rebuild residence halls on South Green.

She will be the Assistant Director for Planning and Assessment

Piercy said. She is very talented and skilled at institutional research ... We're taking on this new venture

the P3

which is a monumental project

which is huge

and we want to make sure that it is done correctly and wisely.

Maskiell, whose current salary is $35,360 a year, will receive $44,000 in her new position.
