Hello,
As a guy trying to navigate the Athens dating scene, I find myself constantly running into the following 20-something contradiction: The New Feminism. I'm hoping that you, a fellow co-ed, could possibly shed some light on this topic so that I might get a clue. So, please - what exactly is New Feminism?

Curious Cat,
I am unfamiliar with the concept of New Feminism, as are the women's and gender studies professionals I asked. From the little information about it on the Internet, New Feminism appears to be a branch of feminism associated with the Catholic Church.
My question for you, however, is why don't you ask all these New Feminists you encounter to explain their beliefs to you? I might be off base, but it's a little alarming that you're trying to date these ladies without asking more about something that's important enough for them to mention. I'm also not sure why you call New Feminism a 20-something contradiction. It sounds as if you don't take the idea of feminism very seriously.
I've noticed sometimes women will bring up their feminist viewpoints when they feel men are acting inappropriately toward them, as if to let them know they would appreciate being treated as a person, not as an object.
When you meet women, do you use sleazy pick up lines? Do you make inappropriate comments or jokes to them? Although it's possible these women's beliefs are so important that they want to disclose the information immediately, it's also possible you're offending them and they're trying to tell you they want to be treated with more respect.
If you want to date, you should start by trying to be a little interested in things that are important to these women. Pay attention to what they say to you and ask them questions.
